The book first provides background information on post-Conquest society, culture and language, and then presents a contact linguistic framework and a description of research methods. The attestations, uses and statuses of Norse-derived and French-derived words in a broad set of early Middle English texts are subsequently discussed at length.

Approaches to Narrative Fiction
Buscall, Jon & Outi Pickering (eds.)
The focus of this publication is twentieth century narrative fiction. You will find cogent discussions on language, identity, gender, sexuality and environment all within the scope of narrative fiction: you'll discover that these discussions of the twentieth century fiction in English are not limited to the work of writers from the British Isles and North America, but draw on work from all over the English-speaking world.
Approaches to Narrative Fiction adds a few more 'tools' to the ongoing workbench of "Understanding Narrative Fiction".
