COURSES AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH WITH OPEN ACCESS - SPRING SEMESTER
PLEASE NOTE: These "exchinfo" pages are intended for international students coming to study on exchange at the University of Turku.
Undergraduate classes taught in the Department of English and listed here are open for international exchange students: primarily for students who are themselves studying English as a degree subject (not merely as a 'service language') at their home universities. (There are excellent English-language classes for non-specialist students offered at Turku’s Language Centre: please consult their website: http://kielikeskus.utu.fi/en/studying/ ). The Turku Department of English operates at the C1-C2 level of English proficiency, and the languages of instruction are English and Finnish.
In 2010, the previously separate Departments of English Philology and of English Translation Studies are joining to form a new Department of English. The new student intake in autumn 2010 will study according to a new joint curriculum, but students admitted in previous years can continue to follow the old curricula, which will be phased out over two years.
International exchange students do not need to worry which curriculum their classes come from: if the courses are listed on these "exchinfo" pages, they are open for you to take.
Please note, however, that exchange students are not admitted to classes listed elsewhere on the English Departments’ websites, which are either specifically designed for Finnish-speaking students, or are closed-access due to limited resources. If you are an international student planning to come to Turku, you must use these pages, and NOT the information on other pages aimed at Turku University’s own degree students.
Credit: The quantity of credits awarded for each course is expressed in ECTS study points (in Finnish: opintopisteet), abbreviated op.
Grades: The grades awarded will be on a scale from 5 (high) through 1 (low), which are exactly equivalent to the A?E of the ECTS scale.
