I completed my doctoral dissertation in 1996 in Jyväskylä about how to apply phenomenology to speech communication. I'm not quite sure yet how well that fits together with my current interests and emphases in teaching and research.

The past years I worked as a communication consultant in the private sector. However, I don't feel divided – at least not badly – even thought my background includes very theoretical research, and on the other hand extremely practical applications of theory.

At the moment I'm working on a study of the history of rhetoric, but I'm sure to return to communication technology at some point. I feel closest to the applications of webcasting and wireless connections.
