Studying

Programmes in French at Turku

French can be studied as part of a Major/Minor degree.

How it works

  • Perusopinnot  (abbreviated as PO) = BASIC STUDIES
  • Aineopinnot (abbreviated as AO) = INTERMEDIATE STUDIES (or Bachelor’s degree)
  • Syventävät opinnot (abbreviated as SO) = ADVANCED STUDIES (or Master’s degree)

Postgraduate studies are also possible at the Department of French Studies. Postgraduate studies lead to the degrees of Licentiate of Philosophy (FL) and Doctor of Philosophy (FT). Please note that research at this level is led in French only.

For further information on funding opportunities and how to apply, contact Prof. Eija Suomela-Salmi at eisusa@utu.fi.

Traineeships

Traineeships are available at our Department during the academic year (minimum duration of stay: 3 weeks).

There are many traineeships to choose from:

  • French as a foreign language
  • Proofreading (Finnish, French & English)
  • Research assistants (transcriptions, interviewing…)
  • Organisation of international conferences…

We welcome applications from candidates whose institution has an agreement with our University (such as Erasmus or Socrates). Special agreements may also be signed between our Department and foreign institutions.

Please note that the Department of French Studies cannot sponsor any traineeship. If accepted, the department will help the trainee to find cheap accommodation.

Should you be interested in a traineeship at our Department, please contact Prof. Eija Suomela-Salmi at eisusa@utu.fi.
