The Research Unit for Volgaic Languages

 

• carries out research into the Finno-Ugric languages spoken in Russia in the region of the River Volga and River Kama (Mordvin, Mari and Udmurt); in addition, the Turkic languages of the region (Chuvash, Tatar and Bashkir) are studied for the purposes of comparison;

• maintains and develops linguistic computer corpora of the above named languages;

• encourages, organizes and promotes scholarly and educational cooperation between the universities of the Volga-Kama region and The University of Turku on these areas of concern;

• provides information about the phenomena and problems related to the languages and peoples of the Volga-Kama region.
