Studying

BA and MA level studies

The Department of General History offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Finnish. Students enrolled in both BA and MA courses gain a broad perspective on issues of world history, which can also be applied to areas of personal interest. Students may specialize in a specific field of history, aiming to gain expertise in either a geographical area or period, or approach issues from particular perspectives. General History incorporates viewpoints from society and the economy to politics, culture, arts and the environment. We emphasize the importance of independent work and personal choice, giving the students the opportunity to follow their own interests in compiling their studies.

For exchange students

The language of tuition at the Department of General History is usually Finnish, but there are occasionally separate courses in English that exchange students can attend. Exchange students can also choose certain courses in English that have been separately agreed upon with the teacher. Students can take, for example, written literature exams in English, and write essays on topics previously agreed upon.

A student applying for exchange student status at the University of Turku must follow the general application protocol. It can be found on the University's International Services' internet pages.

For more information on exchange studies and degree programmes go to the study pages of the Faculty of Humanities. For non-degree programmes see the non-degree page.

International Master’s Programmes in English

The department is actively involved in two international Master’s programmes: European Heritage, Digital Media and the Information Society and Baltic Sea Region Studies.
