AMERICAN VOICES XIX

E pluribus unum: Exploring the kaleidoscope of American culture

Friday 14 October - Saturday 15 October 2011

Each October, the North American Studies program (NAMS) at the University of Turku, in collaboration with the Fulbright Center, hosts all the visiting American university teachers and graduate students who are in Finland through the Fulbright Program for a two-day seminar called American Voices, covering many different aspects of American society and culture.

In October 2011 we will be holding the nineteenth American Voices seminar. For the preliminary program, see here.

The topics dealt with at the seminar vary widely, from serious issues in politics, society or the environment, to more light-hearted ones in sport, music or cuisine. Together, they offer a complex insight into the kaleidoscope of contemporary America.

The event is open to anyone interested: students, faculty, and members of the public.

Students registered in NAMS are asked to take notes and submit a written report of the presentations at the seminar, for which 1 credit point (op) is awarded. This is obligatory at least once for Basic Studies and once for Intermediate Studies, but the seminar may be attended (and reported for credit) as many years as you like.
